Tonnetz grids are usually oriented with the unraveled circle / chain of fifths on a horizontal axis, but I’ve found it more intuitive with vertically aligned fifths instead (
this site has an interactive chart rotated this way).
In a continuous space with unspecified pitch classes, only simple (<1 octave) harmonic relationships can be shown. Voicings are, imo, equally as important as harmonic color, but this compromise is necessary in order for the chord shapes and relations to be obvious. A tonnetz chart could have pitch distinction or even a discontinuous chain of fifths with both signs (A# -> E# instead of F, eventually double signs) but this limitation isn't helpful for instruments that have fixed voicings, such as steel guitar.
